I wrote a long comment but have deleted it as the whole thing has left me with such disbelief . How did anyone in America in America think that Trump was going to be good for them
Thank you for writing about this. It's horrendous. My thoughts this morning have basically been this sentence on a loop: 'The raping, racist genie is out of the Mar-a-Lago bottle and yet still most Americans chose him over a highly competent, experienced and compassionate woman?'
The question that needs to be unpacked is WHY did the average American, including women, feel that they need/want this profile as President.
I can tell you one fact that may (or may not) have contributed to this, and that is the feeling of many among the Arab American community (Muslims, Christians, AND other faith-groups), especially women: they received 0 compassion from the current administration, while their families and relatives were (still are) being slaughtered in Gaza. That the current administration, despite preaching about women rights and progressiveness, promoted feminism only when it relates to white women (excluding me too and BLM trendy campaigns). That raping woman and killing young girls is a war crime only when it happens in Ukraine, but not in the Arab world. That "... identity of being a woman can cross borders, and the lives of other women can infect the bloodstreams of our own" is true only when it serves national interest. That dehumanizing women, girls, men, and boy is the best recipe to produce a radical ruling elite.
This is the most on point thing I have read about this election today and articulates so perfectly what I have been struggling to put into words.

As an Arab American, it is devastating.
